Punch performers of the 19th century used spontaneity, wit and biting satire to attract their crowds above the noise of the busy street.
When English people took up seaside holidays, Punch and Judy followed them to the beach. Today performers known as 'Professors' still carry on the tradition of Punch and Judy.
