World War II toys
People had to make their own toys during World War II because of the war shortages. Toys were made using scraps of wood and cloth from around the home.
By the end of the war selling toys made of tin, even second-hand ones, had been banned. Old metal toys were often given by their owners to be melted down to help the war effort.
Games made out of paper and card were popular during the war because they were cheaper to make and paper was not scarce.
