Homework Club now inclusive
Library study support sessions across Brighton and Hove are officially opening their doors to children and young people with special needs and disabilities. Amaze has been working closely with the Library Service to help it develop more inclusive services. Story Magic, regular sensory storytelling sessions for children with significant learning disabilities at Jubilee and Hove libraries, were the first step and the homework clubs are the latest addition.
“We’re really passionate about welcoming children and young people with additional needs to all 13 of the homework clubs we run in Brighton and Hove every week” says Library Service Study Support Manager, Sara Morden.
The 13 term-time clubs give nine to 19 year olds an opportunity to get to grips with school homework in a friendly, informal environment with books, computers, internet and print and photocopying facilities. They run at all city libraries and include ‘We Love Mondays’, a club for 13 to 19 year olds at Hove Library and ‘We Love Thursdays’, a club for 13-19s at Jubilee Library.
Staff at all the clubs have recently benefited from tailored disability awareness training provided by Extratime and can offer support to children with a wide range of special needs. If you want to talk to Sara Morden about your child’s individual needs, call her on 07847 176830 or email sara.morden@brighton-hove.gov.uk
