How to join 

Everyone can join the library, it’s easy and free

You can join at any of the city’s libraries or, to save time you can join online. We will also set up a unique PIN number for you.

Full membership

Children aged 0-12 need a parent, guardian or close relative’s consent and
proof of the family’s current UK address.

Young people aged 13-15 need one proof of their current UK address in their own name or that of their parent’s/carer’s/relative’s name.

Adults 16 years and above
One proof of current UK address, eg utility bill, bank statement, driving licence

Is there public computer access?
Yes, all libraries offer FREE computer access for ‘full’ library members. There is a charge for printing. To avoid disappointment book ahead at your local library

Basic membership

No proof of ID required for adults, children and young people, this allows a maximum of six books on loan at any one time. 

PC membership card

Proof of ID required, this card entitles you to free use of the library computers and to borrow up to a maximum of six books at any one time.

Your Library Card

Library cards can be used in all Brighton & Hove City Libraries.

You will need to use your card reference number and your unique PIN whenever you access the online library services, either from home or at a library to

  • renew and reserve items
  • use the library self-service desks
  • book a session on one of the library computers, available with full membership or PC membership card
  • login to any of our online library services, as detailed above
