Reasons to visit Coldean Library
This February sees the return of W.I.T.S, our female friendly IT skills course run by volunteer Peter Whitworth. Each session is £2 payable a week in advance To book your place please ring or pop into the library.
Regular activities
- Council Connect Every Monday 10am-1pm - Council Connect Service is designed to help anyone who does not have a computer at home or is not used to using the internet. A volunteer will be available to help people to get online and direct them to sources of information and advice
For children
- Special children’s area with board books, picture books, fiction, DVDs and audiobooks
- Baby Boogie, First Monday of the month 9.15-9.45am (term-time only)
- Booth Museum will be hosting 'Story Telling' for children in the New Year:
Monday 9 Jan, 13 Feb, 12 March, 16 April, 14 May, 11 June, 9 July, 3.30-4pm
A fabulous opportunity to handle some of the amazing artefacts from the world-famous Booth Museum. With professional storytellers to entertain and enlighten, plus colouring and art activities- and maybe a few biccys to munch! Too good to miss!!
- Stories, craft and singing with Laura (from the Early Childhood Project) for pre-school children. Thursdays 9.30-11am (term-time only). Welcoming and inclusive group.
- Micro museum - Artefact's, pictures and paintings of the local area in cases to view. There is also an interactive source of information for everyone to use.

For young people
- Brand new young people’s area with: novels, non-fiction, reference books, DVDs and audiobooks
- Homework Club, held on Thursday 3.30-5pm

- Books for loan, including fiction, non-fiction, a large print section, and a separate reference collection
- DVDs, CDs, and audio books
- Essential skills collections
- Newspapers and periodicals
- Separate IT suite / small meeting room with kitchen for hire
- Tea and coffee 50p a cup
Internet and Computer access free
- Visit the IT suite computers for word processing, access to the internet and all online services available in our Virtual Reference Library. These include:
- Oxford Dictionary of National Biography
- Who’s Who
- Times Digital Archive
- Encyclopaedia Britannica
- Ancestry for family history research
- Range of assistive technology and furniture for disabled customers
