Reasons to visit Hove Library  

Regular activities
  • Five Reading groups, four of which meet on Tuesday evenings throughout the month. The literary book group meets on the last Saturday of the month. Email BookGroupLibraries@brighton-hove.gov.uk for further information.
  • Writing group meets first Saturday of the month, 11am-1pm
  • Lesbian & Gay reading group. Meet on Tuesday evenings throughout the month
  • Silver Surfer sessions for over 50s, first and third Thursday of each month between 9.30am-5.30pm
For children
  • Special area for children: board books, picture books, fiction, DVDs and audio books
  • Baby Boogie on the second & fourth Wednesday of each month starting at 10.15am or 12am.
  • Storytime for under 5s every Friday at 10.15am
  • Rock & Rhyme sessions on the first and third Wednesday of each month at 10.15am
  • Chatterbooks Book group, every second Thursday of the month, 4-5pm
For young people
  • Special area for young people: fiction, non-fiction, graphic novels and study guides
  • Homework Club, Tuesday 3.30-5pm and We Love Mondays, 3.30-5pm

  • Books for loan, including fiction, non-fiction, a large print section, and a separate reference collection
  • DVDs, CDs, audio books and language courses for hire
  • Music scores
  • Community information
  • Local studies for loan and reference
  • Special collections including the Wolseley Collection

Internet and Computer access free

Visit the IT suite for word processing, access to the internet and all online services available in our Virtual Reference Library.  These include:

  • Oxford Dictionary of National Biography
  • Times Digital Archive
  • Encyclopaedia Britannica
  • Marketline Business Information Centre
  • Ancestry for family history research
  • E-Clips  for careers information
  • Range of assistive technology and furniture for disabled customers
