Rare Books
Brighton History Centre has a fascinating range of books and documents in its Rare Book collection.
The collection includes original 1820s visitors’ books from the bath house of Sake Deen Mahomed in which he ‘shampooed’ (massaged) his customers, Victorian cartoons of Brighton’s great and good and a scrapbook with a poster advertising a baseball match in Preston Park during the First World War.
Access to the collection is straightforward. You can either apply for a day pass, for which you will need proof of address (within the last three months) and signature or you can apply for a five year card. You will need to supply two passport photographs for this in addition to proof of address and signature.
