20th Century Art & Design
One of the finest collections of its kind in Britain, it is designated as being of national importance.
Mr Willett's Popular Pottery
Presented as a gift in 1903 by Henry Willett, a founding father of Brighton Museum, this collection of pottery and porcelain illustrates British popular history.
World Art
Including objects from Africa, Asia, the Pacific and Americas, and an especially important collection of textiles from Burma.
Images of Brighton and Exploring Brighton
Trace Brighton’s development from fishing village to cosmopolitan city. Featuring ‘snapshots’ of the beach, the resort, its architecture and varied communities, these galleries reveal the realities of life in Brighton. Find out about health, housing, religious and civic affairs, sports and social life.
Fine Art
Displays of works on paper are regularly renewed in the Prints & Drawings gallery, important 20th century American modern art is in the Heyer Bequest gallery, and highlights from the collection are shown in the picture gallery.
Fashion & Style
Focused on key themes of special significance for Brighton, exhibits range from costumes worn at George IV’s coronation to examples of contemporary street style.
Body
Exploring the ways we interpret our own bodies and those of other people, exhibits range from an ancient Egyptian make-up jar to a Spitting Image puppet.
Performance
Puppets, masks, costume and musical instruments celebrate the human capacity for performance throughout the world.
Ancient Egypt
Across two galleries, displays show burial practices, beliefs, and daily life, including personal adornment and technologies, and information on archaeological excavations in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. A special collection of Nubian material is also featured.
