City Reads 2012

City Reads is an annual citywide reading initiative which aims to spread a love of books and ideas to the widest possible audience throughout Brighton & Hove. The project is run by Collected Works: a Reader Development organisation based in Brighton. The concept is simple: selecting one book by one author for the whole community to read, discuss, debate and creatively engage with in a series of special events, workshops and performances.

 My Policeman - Book cover

This year’s City Reads book is My Policeman by Bethan Roberts

It’s the FIRST TIME that the featured book is based in Brighton…it’s THAT good!

Brighton and Hove Libraries invite you to a series of free events and initiatives to explore the book with other readers, remember or discover 1950s Brighton and win a free copy of the book!

Memories Are Made of This

Take a trip down memory lane – whether you were there or not – and rediscover 1950s Brighton through photographs, objects and period reminiscences. Bring along your memories and memorabilia and help create a unique Brighton & Hove exhibit inspired by this year's City Read – My Policeman. Or simply drop in for fine company, conversation and a complimentary cuppa.

A prize draw will be held for free copies of My Policeman for you to read and book-cross. These lively sessions will add a whole new dimension to your City Reading.
